Homerun Baseball Academy Coaches

Mike has soft hands and quick feet. He overcomes any weaknesses with his speed and overall gamer attitude. He has quick hands with a level swing and gets the barrel to the ball. He comes ready to hit on every pitch and is in the game when the game is on the line. He has a baseball potential body where when he grows into it he will add some pop to his speed game. Mike is a player that will help any program at any level. He is a great student and a gamer on the field with lots of potential to grow into a strong player. He is a speed type player who gets on base and thrives in game winning situations.
From Mike Doig - Coach York Mills Titans for the MVP Award:

As with any athletic team that is competitive in its league, it is very difficult to select one player who stands out. Baseball is no exception. This year, the York Mills baseball team has experience great success. At the time of this writing, they have qualified for both OFSSA and the West Region Finals. This is due in no small part to major contributions by everyone on the team. However, there is one whose contributions can’t be overlooked. He has 3 wins as a starting pitcher, an incredible batting average, and is a great leader, both on and off the field. Whenever the coaching staff ask him, “Can you pitch today?” the answer is always, “I am ready to go!”, usually followed by, “I want to pitch a complete game!”. This guy even re-organized his club baseball schedule so he could play in the entire OFSAA qualifier, which meant after playing baseball for 5 straight hours on Friday, May 22 he then had to drive to Ohio that night, so he could play in another tournament starting Saturday. Not how most guys would celebrate their 18th birthday. The York Mills baseball coaching staff and the entire team appreciate all Mike Forbes has done for the team, and that’s why we would like to honour him as this year’s Baseball MVP.
From Kevin Lawrie - Coach of the North York Blues for the AJ Burnett Outstanding Player Award:

Mike voluntarily offered to assist with a Bantam tournament that North York Baseball was hosting. I believe Mike has already fulfilled his required community hours for high school but he was still the first one to volunteer for a shift during the tournament weekend. Hi kept score, worked on the field, drove the tractor, chalked the foul lines, announced the players, and played music between innings. He took pride in making sure the field was in top-notch condition. The coaches noticed his diligence and commented on his work ethic.
Mike excels in Phys. Ed. and Shop class. He is receiving over 90% in Phys. Ed. and a 97% in Shop class. In shop class he has been creating a small wooden stool that he brings to his games. The stool sits at the gate of the dugout. It started small but he adds to it every game. Now it has an adjustable backrest, a cup holder, two extra legs, a spray-painted logo, and a built-in speaker for use with his iPod. Everyone has a comment about the stool and Mike loves answering questions about it.
Mike leads the team with 16 RBI, is second in average (.389) and is first in on-base percentage (.521). Over the course of a recent tournament victory in Bolton, he raised his average 30 points, stole 5 bases and was responsible for 10 runs. In one game he had two doubles and 5 RBIs. He's versatile on the field - playing both second base and left field. In one recent game he pitched for the first time in six years - no-hitting the opponent for three innings.
Mike just turned 16 years old. He is among the fourth youngest on the team but he has jumped right into a starring role. He is always first when the players run 'poles' and he sets the tone for the upcoming game with his enthusiasm. Mike always comes early for 'optional' batting practice - often arriving even before his coach. If our first base coach is absent, Mike is the first one to volunteer for the position. It's clear that he takes pride in being a member of the team and I believe that mike represents everything that is 'right' with amateur baseball.
